Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, the Gallardo’s successor

Lamborghini Gallardo made its debut in 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show and the company has produced more than 14,000 baby Lambos over the period of one decade. The Italian marquee announced the end of production of Gallardo late last month which set the stage for its successor to be unveiled. Lamborghini has finally taken the wraps off its newest offering which is also one of the most hotly anticipated cars of this year and was at the 5th position on our top 5 upcoming supercars. Prior to the official launch, there was ambiguity in the speculation of what Lamborghini will choose to name the Gallardo’s successor. Some said it’ll be named Cabrera while other rumors pointed towards the name Deimos. To everyone’s surprise, Lamborghini has gone with the name ‘Huracán’, which like other Lamborghinis is named after a legendary bull, but also means the god of storm in Spanish.

 The Lamborghini Huracán was spotted on numerous occasions in the wild covered in camouflage prints, but it did give us a fair idea of what the final product will look like. The Gallardo changed quite a bit externally over the 10 years to keep the design modern but its successor is quite different in many aspects. Lamborghini claims they have developed the Huracán from ground up from scratch. By judging the official images released by the Italian sportscar maker, the design of the Huracán is similar to that of Aventador but has a lot of unique styling bits to give it a separate character of its own. The front end might not look completely new despite the new aggressive headlights but it’s the rear end where the change is most noticeable. The rear end styling is a lot sharper than other models by Lamborghini barring Veneno. The taillights and the sharp edges augmenting the design blend together seamlessly and overall, the Huracán on the outside is beautifully crafted. 

 On the inside, the cabin is styled typical to recent Lamborghinis but with enough new touches. The most eye-catching addition to the cabin is a 12.3 inch full-color TFT instrument panel that delivers all car information to the driver, from rev counter to navigation maps and infotainment functions, and can be configured by the driver in different setups. The interior comes wrapped in fine Nappa leather and Alcantara which will be available in different color combinations. 

 The model that has been launched is named Huracán LP 610-4, which has a 4 wheel drive system powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 that produces 610hp and a peak torque of 480 pound-feet. It is capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 202mph. The car will make an official debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and on a brand-new line at its Sant’Agata Bolognese plant, with the first cars reaching customers in the spring of 2014.

Lamborghini Veneno Roadster

 Lamborghini Veneno Roadster throws away its top for 3.8Million Euro ($5.3 million)

When Lamborghini brought us the Veneno earlier this year in Geneva, the four-of-a-kind, multi-million dollar alien creation was pre-purchased by three well-heeled buyers, with the fourth calling Lamborghini's museum its home. The gaudy supercar was formed in celebration of the mad Italian automaker's 50th birthday. And that, we presumed, would be the end of the story.

But as these leaked photographs show, a topless Veneno is preparing for its inauguration, and according to Top Gear, it will be priced at a staggering 3.8 Million Euro ($5.3 million).

With nine being built, the Veneno Roadster will still be rare, but you get the impression the level of demand for the Veneno has been stronger than originally expected, leading Lamborghini to consider the roadster version. And with 740 hp unleashed from its 6.5-liter V-12, and a 0-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds, meshed with a top speed of 354km/h (220 mph), it's hardly surprising that the richest of the rich are clamoring for this ostentatious look-at-me-and-I'll-kill-you machine.

 What makes the all-wheel drive Veneno so expensive, notwithstanding its uniqueness, is its abundant use of carbon fiber, including in much of the interior, keeping the weight of the sizable supercar down to a sensible 3,285 lbs. But if our Top Gear friends are correct, quite how the Roadster warrants such a price hike over its 2.9 Million Euro ($4 million) roofed brother is beyond me. Convertibles usually cost more, but the Veneno Roadster is no convertible. In fact, it has no roof whatsoever; if it rains, your only option is to depress the gas harder and outrun the droplets (shouldn't be too difficult). And the open-air sound of the screaming V-12 would surely be worth that minor inconvenience.

From its voracious V-12 engine to eye-transfixing styling, the Aventador Roadster is the epitome of conspicuous consumption, a term coined in Thorstein Veblen’s satirical treatise on pecuniary emulation titled “Theory of the Leisure Class.” The roofless LP700-4 does, after-all, offer a clear view of whomever is inside, giving passersby ample clearance to covet the owner’s station – or just see if they’re wearing a wedding band. Is it any wonder that convertible supercars often outsell their coupe counterparts two to one, or that the Aventador Roadster has already raked in 15 months worth of orders?

Gone is the flimsy fabric roof of the Murcielago Roadster, replaced with a two-piece carbon-fiber unit. It guarantees near coupe levels of stiffness despite each piece weighing just 13 pounds. They get stored in the front luggage compartment, where they will most likely stay, unless confronted with a random thunderstorm. Forget the who’s who in the driver’s chair and peer through the rear glass down to the V-12. It’s the same unit in the base coupe. It doesn’t get the extra 20 horsepower as in the limited-edition LP720-4 Anniversario, but it has only an extra 111 pounds. Where the powertrain does differ is the new stop-and-start system, which shuts the engine off when stopped and fires it back up in as little as 180 milliseconds. It helps reduce fuel consumption by 7 percent, which is not enough for most to notice, but that’s why you have the open top.

Lamborghini Egoista Anniversary Concept

 Why Egoista? Because it is not meant to be shared! The new sultry supercar from Lamborghini is fitted with only one seat, so that the joys and thrills of rushing it on the streets are exclusively reserved for the driver.

The Egoista was designed as a tribute to the automaker’s 50th anniversary. Its maker was Italian car designer and head of Volkswagen Group Design, Walter De Silva. The driver’s cockpit works as “a sort of survival cell”, being crafted entirely from carbon fiber. It was envisioned as a very futuristic element, a special cockpit that could be removed from a jet aircraft and easily integrated into a car.

Powering the concept is a 5.2-liter V10 engine delivering up to 600 hp. This immediately suggests mind-boggling performance, which goes excellently well with the anti-radar character of the car’s body and rims. Its maker really felt free to give it all the features he wanted – a true symbol of well-deserved egoism.

And we say “well-deserved” because Lamborghini has given everything to satisfying its clients for half a century, so it is only fitting that this one-off creation should boast all the characteristics that the fabled automaker wants for itself. After all, this is “a gift from Lamborghini to Lamborghini”.

Lamborghini Aventador for the Dubai Police

The Middle East is a place where appearances are a little bit more important than in other areas of the world, and this amazing police car is an excellent proof of that. It is not every day that we see Lamborghini Aventadors on the street, but it is even more uncommon to see them bear the police emblem and lights.

For Dubai, however, having a luxury supercar in the police fleet is not that big a deal. After all, they also have several other stunners like a few new Chevy Camaros. Even though it makes sense to use the 700 HP Aventador in police chases, the car will apparently only be used as a display vehicle intended to impress tourists. Glam police patrols actually sound very Dubai to us.

And let’s not forget that this is a prohibitively expensive supercar 306.800Euro (around $400,000), so crushing it in a chasing that went bad is not exactly an option.

Lamborghini Veneno $4.5 million supercar

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Lamborghini has introduced its fastest and most outrageous road car yet, the Veneno.
The Veneno is named after a legendary fighting bull whose reputation was built on the fact that it was one of the strongest and most aggressive in history.

The Veneno is based on the Aventador Coupe and is built almost entirely from carbon fiber. It boasts a V12, 750 horespower powertrain and permanent four-wheel drive.

Lamborghini says the Veneno can reach speeds of 220 miles per hour (355 kilometers per hour) and accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds

The model making its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show is grey, but the three production models will each be finished in one of the three colors of the Italian flag.

The green, white and red cars will retail for €3 million ($3.9 million) plus tax and Lamborghini claims it has already secured a buyer for every example

However the display model, which carries the production number 0, will remain the property of Lamborghini.

Likewise, although the Italian supercar maker has guaranteed delivery of each production model before the end of the year, production won’t start until further track-based testing has been completed.
